Carla Leitao & Ed Keller

a|Um Studio was founded by Ed Keller and Carla Leitao in 2003. The a|Um Studio design process is informed by the core belief that every spatial or cultural artifact is a the intersection of material, temporal and event relations. Adequate techniques are needed to unfold such systems and evolve their role as meaning-producing materials.

Drawing from parading shifts in contemporary architecture, film theory, sciences, and philosophy, a|Um believes that it is possible to invent new relationships between material and event structures in architecture, urban system, cinema, media, and technology, and construct innovative avenues of self-regulation in the material and systemic organizatioins that make up those landscapes.

a|Um's work focuses on studying the modes of identification and mapping of relevant connections between material flows, landscapes, economic and political systems- the different time cycles at play in any organization – and proposing modes of operation in architecture and design which question and act upon the nature of programmatic and material organizations.

I was born in Taipei City in1979; in 2002 graduated from the Department of Architecture in Tamkang University (TKU) in Taiwan, and obtained the degree of M.Arch. in 2004. I am very glad to have this chance to take part in this activity, and I can't wait to see many friends and partners who come from different countries with different cultures. I think this will be a meaningful way and a necessity to re-discovery and re-definite the city, which we had known before.
